NBUS Challenge #11

I had to chuckle when I saw Darnell's NBUS Challenge 11.  It never dawned on me to join in - I just trash my mistakes and go forward.  However....

I attempted to re-create Jennifer McGuires' Faux Shadow Embossing. HA!  [That girl makes everything look so easy].  Well, the above was my attempt, and obviously it wasn't easy for me!

This was the attempted card - it also went to the trash, and suffice to say, I gave up on this technique.  Maybe in the future I will try again -- but too many failures today.

At least it qualified for NBUS #11 - that is a positive.

Thanks for stopping by~

The finished one looks fine to me!

Sometimes a technique is just not meant to be one for us. I know I have tried a few things and decided it was not my style or just plain not being able to manage to grasp a good handle on it. Thanks for sharing though and I do love the card you finally made. It is gorgeous.

You'll prolly never know how many crafters you made feel better about themselves with this post, Vicki! How DOES that Jennifer make it all look SO easy!! Thank you for being such a good sport and sharing!! Love ya, Darnell

I keep forgetting about this challenge and just trash as I go. Will have to try next year but can so sympathise with you when trying something that just doesn't work for you. And you end up walking out of the room thinking I should never have even started today. Cant say you gave up easily either.

I really enjoyed the story that accompanied your card. I watched that video, tried the technique. . .you did a fine job. . .I'm still practicing. . .I love Jennifer's videos. Your story and card encourage me to keep trying! Thanks.

I haven't watched Jennifer's video yet, but, I do know how you feel. She really does make it look easy and often my attempts to recreate her designs don't quite have that polished look!! But I think your final card looks great. I am off to watch her video now :). Thank you for sharing...

I always have high hopes with embossing and have similar results. Your card is so pretty though!

I saw that technique, thought it looked good to try myself and thought better of myself. Like everything, these things always take practice, but I think you are being far too hard on yourself, as the finished card looks really pretty. I need to keep my failures for this next year! Xx

I have had lots of failures trying Jennifer's techniques (and some successes too). I always throw things in the trash ... never think to hang on to them. :) Thanks for sharing that you also struggle with some of JM's techniques. xx

Kudos to you for even attempting that technique; I enjoyed the video and knew it wasn't for me (aside from embossing folders, I steer clear of embossing powders/heat guns...love what others do, but it just isn't my thing). Your card looks pretty from where I'm sitting! I think you'll have this mastered next go-round!

I tried this just today and found a discrepancy in the MISTI version of the stamping. I had to move the panel from the edge first and then move to the corner for the overstamping in order for the shadow to be on the left. And when she said move a little, she meant LITTLE. I did get one fairly decent panel and didn't emboss the bottom layer.
