SCS Color Challenge 380

I wasn't planning on playing in the color challenge over at Splitcoast - just wasn't feeling the colors; Tango Orange, Artichoke and Chocolate Chip.  However, I kept seeing a card in my mind so I made it.  The butterflies and flourishes were an added addition.  Not quite sure, but it was just too empty without something.

Okay - tell me what you really think... please.  Maybe the flourishes aren't consistent enough?  I don't know, but something doesn't feel right...   Oh Susan?????????????  Are you there??? :)

I used the Flourishes set from PTI, and Thank You For Being My Friend by Hero Arts.  Washi Tape is from Target.  [SIDE NOTE:  I found this tape in the stationary department with the thumb tacks, push pin area -- I think it is called Painted Tape.]

If you like these colors, feel free to pop on over to SCS and play along!

Thanks for stopping by~

Vicki, I'm being totally honest here. I really, really like it a lot. My favorite part is the flourishes and butterflies and will most certainly be CASing this idea. Thanks for the inspiration.

Awwww, Vicki, I hate putting on my critic's cap for other people, but since you asked so nicely....

1. Are the glittery butterflies as different a green from the polka dots as they appear on my screen? If they are more artichoke like the dots, then that would help unify the top and bottom halves of the card. If they are not (they look almost kelly on my screen), then that's part of the problem.

2. You're right about the flourish and butterfly placement. The butterflies are all in a row; arranged in a triangle, they would look more balanced. Bring the middle one down lower toward the line of tape, maybe have its flourish slightly overlap the tape...directing the eye down toward the lower third of the card. Slide the left one up a bit, and the right one to the right a tad. What do you think?

3. Since the butterflies are so glittery and blingy, a bit of bling on the bottom would help balance the design, too. Perhaps a couple of rhinestones on the right side of the orange strip (arranged vertically) would bring the eye down to the sentiment.

I really like how you've combined straight lines, dots, and flourishes on one card...that's a lovely idea! The elements just need a bit more unity to pull it all together!

Does that help?

As soon as stuff settles from my trip, I look forward to catching up on my blog reading...yours in particular. I have about 800 unread posts in Google Reader right now!

Vicki, I love this card idea! I like that you combined the butterflies and the flourishes. I think Susan gave some good ideas to bring it all together but it's still cute just the way it is. : )
